Summary of the presentation:
This presentation will provide general information on domestic and sexual violence. The information presented will increase the participant’s knowledge of domestic and sexual violence dynamics and increase awareness of community resources. This presentation will examine what is domestic violence, when is violence abuse, healthy verse unhealthy relationships and battering tactics and red flags. Secondly, this presentation will also define sexual violence, what is consent, perpetrator's relationship to victims, and the different services available for sexual and domestic violence victims.
Statistically underserved populations experience higher risks of sexual and domestic violence. In this workshop, we will focus on building the capacity of allied professionals by increasing participant knowledge and skill base of sexual and domestic violence and available resources. In order to reduce the risk of further harm to victims and their families, services need to be to be understood in a comprehensive and trauma informed manner. Improving allied professional skills will increase trauma informed responses to victims, access to services, and enhance perpetrator accountability.
